Blog Funk

Okay, okay, so I've been in a bit of a blogging funk lately...this was brought to light by my 'adopted' sister and brother today while having a delightful picnic lunch. I have no excuses really, but I've been in one of those busy yet unmotivated kinda moods. I haven't been doing much reading, I haven't been doing much writing, I haven't been doing much cleaning...I really can't say what I've been doing - surviving?

June has been a heavy month being on call for 3 clients due within a 2 1/2 week span. I was doing really well for the first two weeks of the month until last Monday night when I realized with terror that Joel was going to be around to take care of the kids 8 out of the next 21 days when I could be at births. Lets say I got a little freaked out. When it's only one client a month I know that I won't have to impose on my wonderful babysitters more than once, but with three due it's a different story. So anyway, Monday night I freaked out, talked it over with Joel who has no idea why I get so stressed about stuff, and didn't feel a whole lot better when I went to bed that night. Tuesday morning I felt just as bad if not worse. I had some talks with God while getting cleaned up for the day and I started to read an article I'd been given by our pastor. God spoke peace to me through that article and I was feeling much better. Then, before I even finished the article my pager went off. I couldn't believe it!! Sure enough, my mom #1 was calling to tell me she thought she was in labour. An hour and a half later I was helping her into the hospital, and then 2 hours after that I witnessed the beautiful birth of a sweet little baby boy. I was thrilled to say the least :) Now the next 2 clients I have backup for, so the tension level for me isn't quite as high.

So a quick overview of June:

The first Friday of the month was the beginning of the Clinton Spring Fair. It was stinkin hot that weekend! We went to the reptile show in the afternoon and I was picked to be one of the six lucky adults to hold the huge Burmese Python you see in the picture above. She was 13 feet long and weighed 130 lbs!! It was quite the incredible experience to feel the weight and strength of that huge snake in my arms as I held up her belly. I could feel her muscles and could imagine how easily she would be able to squeeze the life out of her prey with those huge muscles. My kids couldn't believe that I got to hold it. They were all willing to take a turn petting the creature. It was something I'd never thought that I would get to do in my lifetime so it was cool.

Here the kids are petting another reptile that was at the fair...I forget what he was, but he was really cool!

Of course Joel and Obi went to the demolition derby on Friday night and I took the kids to the midway on Saturday. Thankfully Grandma Siebert came up to spend the day with us so I wouldn't have to take them by myself since Joel was working. I was most grateful when she offered to go on the spinning ride with Obi, I am NOT a fan of spinning :)

Then there was the parade at noon. It's always lots of fun. My favourites were the bagpipers and the one man band: Bandaloni, what a talented guy! We had a blast watching his show later on too as he took requests and played for us.

Here's a pic of my beautiful eldest daughter enjoying the parade :)

This past Friday I celebrated my 24th birthday (HAHA)...a woman never reveals her age ;) Okay, so I turned 34. Joel had to work so I planned my own birthday party and invited a few girls to go out for supper with me in Goderich. After a very rough day at home with the kids (Obi and Lyric fought ALL day), it was such a relief to be able to go out for some girl-bonding time with lots of appetizers, a gorgeous strawberry daiquiri and chocolate eruption for dessert: the perfect evening.

I was SO thrilled that my dear friend Angelle drove ALL the way to Clinton from her home almost 2 1/2 hours away just to spend the evening with me...now THAT'S friendship :) Especially when gas is over 1.30/litre! She spent the night at my place and we stayed up until 2 a.m. talking and laughing together. Wishing that we still lived within 20 minutes of each other, although somehow we seem to now make the effort to spend more meaningful time together, so maybe the distance isn't such a bad thing :) It's certainly shown us that our friendship can stand the test of time because after almost a year of her moving away we still see each other every few months. Love you Angelle!!

I'm so grateful for good friends, I have so many! I don't take that for granted at all!! I know how rare and precious a gift that is.

So, there you have it; the last 3 weeks condensed into a few paragraphs. I will TRY to blog more often, but I won't make any promises :) We are looking forward to summer break and hoping to keep the kids busy with lots of fun stuff, and lots of relaxing too!
