The Blessings in Blessing Others

I am always blown away by how much God blesses me when I take the opportunity to bless others. I remember one day when I was grocery shopping by myself in Goderich (which doesn't happen often) and I saw an elderly lady who was nearly blind trying to find something on the shelf. I asked if I could help her and she was SO thrilled. I helped her find 2 things and she kept on shaking my hand and saying "God bless you!" over and over. It was such a little thing for me, took only moments of my time, but it meant so much to her. It felt so good to be able to help her out when normally I would have been so wrapped up in looking after my kids I never would have even noticed her in the store.

Everyone that is a part of our church here (Kingsfield Clinton) experienced being blessed by helping someone else one Sunday in July when we decided to do some practical service for people in our community who really needed a hand. When Kingsfield Clinton began in our home in November we knew that we wanted to find some hands-on ways that we could make the lives of some of our community members better. We did some research and found an awesome group here that is instrumental in helping people in Clinton who need a little help. They purchased a house with dreams that it would be able to provide shelter and safety for kids who needed it. The house needs some major work though, and that's where we knew we could help! We've got some extremely handy-men in our church and in our group of friends that were more than willing to swing a hammer and do some ripping to help others...and that's just what they did!

Here's Dylan right in there ripping out the ceiling...the kids were all more than willing to help!
Here's Obi helping out in his own little way :)

Meanwhile the ladies kept busy pulling weeds from the over-run flowerbeds and even taking down a few trees (yeah, using a saws-all was a lot of fun-never knew I was a girl who could handle power tools ;) We worked for 5 1/2 hours and we worked HARD and it felt AWESOME!!

Told you it was fun!!

Even the stones in the waterfall got shined up that day :)

Now, I'm not saying that we should help other people to make ourselves feel great, but isn't it amazing how when we give of ourselves we often get more in return than we ever thought possible! I will never forget that Sunday and how wonderful it was to serve our community! I look forward to the next time we have a workday as our worship.
