January was a very busy month! Was blessed to be able to attend all 3 births that I was hired for in January. Funny how those things work out even when I have 3 women due within 8 days. Yet I couldn't help but remember back to New Years day 2009 when I attended 2 births in the same day for 2 women who were due 27 days apart! I've decided not to worry quite so much about having my clients due at least 4 weeks apart since I've tried that and it doesn't always work out that way :) Yes, the un-controllability of my job is still a huge stretch for me, but I still love it!
In April I will have the awesome privilege of attending the birth of a very close friend (basically family member and in June the birth of one of my dearest & bestest friends :) It's going to be a great year! My fall is also booking up quickly so that's been great too! I'm hoping to take my summer off as we are planning on camping lots, but we'll see what happens.
Last year ended with some pretty remarkable events involving my darling husband! Near the beginning of the month he attended an ambulance call where he and his partner were able to save their patient! It was absolutely incredible!! It's not a real common occurrence when the medics can actually bring someone back, but he has had this privilege a few times in his career. Then in early January he spotted a major fire uptown and was the one to call the fire department as well as to get the people out of the apartments in the attached building... my hubby the lifesaver!! What an awesome privilege that God used him in those incredible ways, I was (am) so proud of him.
Mid-January we had another Christmas dinner with my dad's side of the family that we really only see once a year (other than my Grandma who we try to visit a few times a year at least!). I am so grateful that my kids have a surviving great-Grandparent! I know I've talked on my blog about my wonderful Grandma before; I am so grateful for her and everything she has taught me.
Unfortunately the trip was not all that we were hoping for as the weather was extremely warm for the end of January and after buying 2 day passes to Algonquin park for skiing, it proceeded to rain for those 2 days and they actually CLOSED the trails in the park!! We were so disappointed! Especially considering we only had the 2 full days up there. We made the best of it though and decided to ski anyhow! We parked outside of the park and skied into the park. The snow conditions were pretty crappy, but we still had fun. The second day of skiing we were thrilled to be able to make it to one of the warming cabins on the trail, so that was great! We were the only ones there for most of the time (another couple coming just as we were heading out). The chickadees were thrilled to see us as they hadn't had people around to feed them in a few days! It was so cool because when we were approaching the cabin they started to fly right up to us, checking to see if we had food. I went into the cabin & got some seeds right away and sat out on the porch to feed them while Joel started a fire. We were surrounded by chickadees, it was really cool!
We also enjoyed the jacuzzi and fireplace in our room and did a lot of reading and relaxing while we were there. We also were fed VERY well so that was awesome! Joel did manage to get the stomach flu while we were there so that stunk, but we still made the best of things. Hopefully we'll have better luck (and health) next year ;)
February and March have blown by, I don't even know what all I've kept busy with, but there's been a lot! I'm excited about teaching my first prenatal class all of my own next Wednesday. I only have 2 couples registered, but I'm still really looking forward to it! I'm hoping in time the classes will grow as more people get to know about them. I've also been attending and teaching some other classes and workshops for church which has been great, but busy!
So that's a little update on us! I hope to write again soon when there's something new to chat about :)
