God's Promise

Whenever I see a rainbow I automatically think of it as a love note from God...saying He's there looking after me. Tonight was quite the evening, we had many opportunities to see how He is indeed looking after us.

It all started with the usual Wednesday night trip to Zurich for the kids soccer game. When we started the van to head out, it hesitated then turned over and started. Joel and I kinda looked at eachother and said "what was that?", but shook it off and forgot all about it.

At the soccer game the sky had the most incredible cloud formations as a storm came up over the lake. When we were leaving the game the rain and hail started, we were relieved to be leaving at just the right time. So, we all pack into the van, and Joel turns the key...nothing. He tried over and over and still the van would not start. Amazingly, Rich (a mechanic from church) just happened to be heading to his car (the only other vehicle left parked on the opposite side of the school. He came over and told us we'd need a jump and took his car looking for some booster cables. We sat in the van and watched the storm and waited.

Rich came back and it took several tries to get the van to finally turn over. He thought it was likely the battery that needed to be replaced. We thanked him profusely and headed for Exeter to Canadian Tire to get a battery since Joel has to work 24 hours tomorrow, all day Friday and we're leaving Friday night for Hanover.

On the drive there we see the rainbow :) We ooed and ahhed over it all the way to Canadian Tire. Joel was worried they would be closing at 8 pm and I assured him that it would be open until 9 pm. What Canadian Tire on earth closes at 8 pm?? The one in Exeter!! We got there at 8:03 pm. Joel ran up to the door but it was already locked. We didn't know what on earth to do. We were so disappointed and frustrated! We knew we couldn't stop the van or we'd never start it again, we also knew nobody else in Exeter would be open at that time. Then we saw some customers leaving, Joel ran up to the manager and told pled her our case and she let him in!!

The kids and I cheered in the van! I said "now we just have to pray that they have the right battery". Instantly my sweet son broke into prayer "Dear God, please put the right battery into that store so Daddy can buy it". I smiled.

Several minutes later Joel emerged victorius, battery in hand. We all talked on the way home about God had worked out every detail and was definitely looking after us...just like He promises to. From where we parked, the time we left the soccer game, the time we got to Exeter, the manager letting us in, the rainbow in the sky, every detail was in our favour. Some people may be able to say those things were all coincidence. That God had nothing to do with it. But we all know better :)

Thanks God for still being there looking out for us.
