Too Busy to Write

Well, lately I haven't been doing much blogging...sorry to all my dedicated readers. I can't believe so many of you still check my blog daily for new updates even when I can go weeks without writing!

I'm going to try to write more. I've noticed I haven't been writing much at all lately, not in my journal, not on here. I guess with the busyness of life I haven't taken many opportunities to step back and reflect on life. I hope to change that.

So, I'm going to write a bit about our pre-March-Break trip to Wheels Inn in Chatham. We decided to go for the Wednesday and Thursday nights before March break with our friends Kim and Jeff. We had a blast!! The kids loved it there. If any of you have never been there, it's a hotel full of stuff to do; giant playgrounds, mini golf, 10 pin bowling, amusement rides, pool and waterslide. A kids dream come true :) The only thing was, the room we stayed in had carpet in it that I'm positive has been there since they opened, over 35 years ago! It smelled slightly musty and we weren't too sure how clean it was, but the kids thought it was just beautiful :) They've never stayed in a hotel before (besides the run down condo we stayed at in Collingwood years ago), so they thought the room was awesome ... too funny. For Joel and I who are used to staying at a 5 star resort when we escape every winter up North the room was less than ideal. Ah well, we had a blast anyway!

Here are some pics highlighting our trip:

Can you guess who's hiding in the ball pit? It's Izzy :)
And here's Obi throwing the balls in the air

Marly on her way out of the slide (the playground was huge! Kept the kids running for ages!)

Here's sweet little Simon...even at 14 months old I think he had a good time too :)

Lyric and I in the planes :)

The Squires enjoying the Ferris Wheel!

More Ferris Wheel fun...I love Lyric's Face :)

10 pin bowling was a blast!

This picture sums up the trip for you. We ran those little kiddies into the ground. This picture was taken the second day in the afternoon. We were shaking her and Joel even opened her eyes with his fingers...she STILL didn't wake up. I'd never seen such a tired little soul :)

It was such an awesome family vacation. As much as I loved the baby stage in our family, I have to say I'm enjoyed this stage of our life so much. I get to sleep through the night, I don't have kids that need me every moment of the day, and yet they're young enough to still want to hang out with me. They still think I'm one of the greatest people on earth. I'm still the one they run to when they need comforting or are frightened. Family vacations are now fun for every member of the family; we don't have to base them around naps, or worry about heating up baby food when we go out. I'm really enjoying living in the moment with my family right now. This summer is going to be awesome for camping; great family time and all my kids LOVE it. I'm so grateful for my little family and I'm so glad my kids are so close in age, even though it was really hard work for many years. I'll admit, I get a little nervous when I look ahead 5 years to when my kids are 9, 11, and 13. I wonder if they will still want to hug me. If they'll still want bedtime kisses and songs. If they'll still want to go on vacation and hang out as a family. I sure hope (and pray so). Some days I look at Lyric and I can't believe that my baby is almost 4! That my baby starts school in September, it blows me away. I often tell her to stop growing...but I know that there is no way to stop time, so my heart treasures little moments that I know will soon be gone... and sometimes it aches.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying these years...

Mel

The stories and the family pics are great. I love that you 'ran the kids into the ground' with PLAY - WITH them! This is so good that you & Joel, Jeff & Kim invested such time into each other, and your children together.

And even with only one child (and number two 'in the oven' :) ) I know the ache of which you speak. I see now why parents try to cling to their youngest child remaining young. These little ones are such treasures.

I treasure Izzy, Obi and Lyric with you.
