Life's A Beach

Okay, so I'm not a big fan of sand...I can't stand when it gets stuck to the kids and they drag it from the beach to my van and home. There's nothing worse then sand sticking to little bodies inside a wet bathing suit. So why then, would I actually choose to spend time at the beach? Well, one reason is that my kiddies love it. A second is that's it's one place that's closeby that we can go to where Joel can relax and not be working on the house. Thirdly, there are things that I love about the beach, no matter how much I dislike the awful, sticky sand.

We are so fortunate to live within 20 minutes of Lake Huron. On a whim we can pick up and head to the beach for the afternoon and spend an hour or two soaking up the sun. There is something so awe-inspiring about gazing on a lake that you can't see the other side of. This year I've really noticed that the lake is such a gorgeous colour...a tropical green-blue. I don't remember it being that colour other years, but maybe that's just my imagination. It's gorgeous though. I love to listen to the waves lapping up on the shore and to see my kiddies running and laughing in the surf. It's a beautiful thing!

These pics were taken on a day in early June where we took advantage of the nice weather and hit the beach. Before we went there we spent some time at a local event where the kids could sit in and explore all kinds of trucks, farm machinery etc., so here's a little pic from that first:

I love this shot...Joel got it with the kids in a snowplow blade.

Okay, now on to the beach:

My big happy family. I am such a lucky woman!!

I love this shot too! Notice the ship in the distance? It was coming in while we were there. The kids loved to watch it growing bigger and bigger as it got close.

Another favourite past-time of mine that I've had since I was a kid, is searching for cool and wonderful rocks on the beach. I'm rubbing off on my kids and we all leave with pocket-fulls of rocks each time we're at the rock beach. There's something amazing about the diversity of something so small that makes me so awe-struck by my Father.

Then I spotted this little wild-strawberry plant growing among the rocks. It's was really cool to see it growing so heartily despite it's rough surroundings. So beautiful!

Despite all the fun we had at the beach as a family, I have to say that my favourite part of that day was running into my girlfriend Angelle that I hadn't seen in over a year (she moved away a couple of years ago and is now a 2 1/2 hour drive-or so- away)...it was such an awesome surprise!!!

It's so great to have those friends that you can see after over a year and you feel like you haven't been apart, the conversation flows easily and you just pick up where you left off. Joel surprised me a couple of weeks later by having them meet us in London to celebrate my 35th birthday. Thanks so much for being a part of that Angelle!

Well, that's it for now, but I promise I'll get on here again soon and share some more special summer memories with you,

Mel
