These past few days have been pretty exciting for me. I've been developing a brochure for the prenatal classes that I will be starting to teach in September! I am so excited! A couple of months ago my friend who works at the local health unit (and used to have me come to her prenatal classes as a 'guest speaker' to cover comfort measures for labour), told me that the health unit was cutting out 2 classes from their set of 8 prenatal classes offered. She was disappointed to tell me that she no longer had the time available to have me come and speak to her class. But, she said, if I had ever thought about holding my own classes, then now was the time! It got me thinking...and researching.
I've decided to go for my Childbirth Educator training through Global Birth Institute. Their program looks awesome and it's all distance education. In the meantime I've decided to host "comfort measure classes" once or twice a month here in Clinton and I'm hoping that it goes really well! My friend said that they would recommend my classes considering it is something that the couples coming to prenatal are very keen to learn (and it's something they will no longer be covering). I'm currently looking into a location for my classes, but I think I've already found that as well.
I think it's going to be so great having my very own classes. I can make them as casual and fun as I want! I'm really looking forward to this new adventure :)

Almost makes me wish I could start over having kids so I could sign up for one of you classes. LOL
It's great that you can have your own classes, Mel! I have a good friend who teaches under a bigger organization and they have pretty strict controls over what she can and cannot say. It's pretty frustrating for her sometimes. Sound like you'll have no problem with that. I'm sure your classes will be awesome!
Maybe I'll have to give these classes a try :-)
