A week or so ago we went to the Huron County Ambulance Christmas get-together. Ben & Krystal held it at their cabin and we all just brought some food, drinks & games along and hung out. We had a blast playing the game Guesstures! Here are some pics from the event:
Yes, this coming weekend is the Siebert Christmas Party. We also do some pretty serious partying on this weekend. It all begins Friday night as we gorge ourselves on appetizers and goodies. We try to sneak in some healthy options, but really it's just a fun meal where we eat whatever we want. We stay up very late (and so do the kids) and we all sleep over at mom and dad Sieberts. The next morning we open gifts and have brunch followed by a day of hanging out together, then more eating as we have the traditional turkey. It is always a fun time :)
As I wind up my Christmas shopping I find it hard to focus on the true meaning of Christmas because it's such a busy and exciting time. Keeping Christ as the centre is so important, after all, without Him there wouldn't be a Christmas. Trying to keep the kids focused on that is even harder as they look forward to the gifts. We've done a few things this year to share with the kids that it's important to give gifts and money to people who don't have as much. We also got a hold of a magazine where you can purchase gifts such as animals, clothing, even homes for people in Asia who have nothing and I read a suggestion that you can give your kids money for Christmas and then sit down together and they can decide what they want to purchase with their money for these people in Asia, so I think we're going to do that. It's such a challenge in our affluent society to keep our focus clear. I want to instill this in my kids as early as possible (as I work on it myself).
Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas season. Be safe, have fun, and remember the true meaning of Christmas as we enjoy the luxuries of the season.
God Bless,
Mel
