Well, October is flying by. I don't know if it's just hitting me now that fall actually FEELS like it's here or what, but I'm just realizing that time is slipping past me. Yikes!! For some reason my "to do" list just keeps on growing by the day. Maybe it's because I'm a procrastinator! Yep, I think so. There are a few tasks on there that I've been having a hard time getting inspired to get done becuase I'm dreading them, or they are difficult to deal with. For example a birth story I've been 'trying' to write for weeks. It's SO hard to write a birth story for a difficult birth and make it a positive story. To focus on the positives and yet give a good rendition of the whole story. How does one do that? I'm struggling with that one.
Starting tomorrow I'm back 'on call' for my October client. She is due two weeks from tomorrow so I try to stay within the area, or if I'm going to be more than an hour away I let her know. In my contract I state that it may take up to 2 hours for me to get to my clients (whether that's because I'm trying to arrange childcare, or whatever else). So this weekend, I'm heading off to Alliston (2 hours away!) for a doula conference that looks awesome!! Penny Simkin, the mother or doula's will be speaking. I'm so excited to hear her talk. The topics look great, and I'm looking forward to hanging out with my dear colleague & friend Sharon (we're splitting a hotel room) and learning more about the biz. I know it will make me a better doula. I'm just praying I don't get paged and have to miss it. These are chances we take as doula's. Never knowing when that call is going to come. Never knowing what we'll have to miss. So far I've missed Fairs, parades, a pool party, and a few good dinners out :(, but of course being at a birth is ALWAYS worth it, even when it's a long and difficult birth.
So we'll talk to you next week. Hopefully I'll have some pics of Penny :) Hope you all have a great weekend.
Mel
