One Crazy Day

Well, I thought life was busy before today, but today was absolutely crazy. Today actually started for me last night at 10:40 pm when I was called out to a birth. The birth was a beautiful uncomplicated one (again, thank you Lord!) and I was back in bed by shortly after 3 a.m. Unfortunately, my brain was on adrenaline and it took me quite a while to get to sleep.

From about 6 a.m. on, I slept in little naps until 7:30 as Joel was getting ready for work and the kids were up and about.

I got Izzy off to school and then took the younger two to the BIA Tiny Tot Halloween parade. It was a blast. There were almost 150 kids this year that paraded up main street. We had police helping stop traffic, and all the local merchants outside their storefronts passing out candy. It was a lot of fun. Some of our favourite moments were:

Lyric seeing "Her friends" from her coffee group (she is very possessive and always makes sure Obi and Izzy know these ladies are HER friends. They're a group of wonderful ladies that meet daily for coffee and chat at Bartliffs the local bakery. It's so refreshing for me to see people gather regularly and share their lives together. They have all fallen in love with Lyric as she charms them with her smiles, stories, hugs and artwork that she creates on the back of the place mats at the restaurant. The lady in red is "Grandma Bee", she just adores Lyric. I love to take her in there to see her "coffee group". This past year on her birthday they all signed a card for her, it was so special :)

Then we got to see our buddy John:

Everybody in Clinton knows John. He and his wife own one of the local Pharmacies. He is the most generous man with the children in town. Every kid knows if they go into the drug store, they are guaranteed to be able to pick out a treat from the candy section. EVERY TIME! It will be a sad day in our town when John isn't around anymore. The kids love him.

After lunch Lyric and I caught a nap for a bit and then headed off to pick Izzy up from school. After that it was a quick supper, a visit from Daddy and then off to trick-or-treating. Here is Daddy and his partner for the day all dressed up for Halloween. Joel says they were dressed up as "Caring Medics". Haha

Trick or treating starts every year with a trip out to Woodland Links to see Aunt Paula and Uncle Gourd (Heehee, came up with that this year...it's actually Gord, who unfortunately was working tonight so we didn't get to see him). This is always fun because Aunt Paula LOADS the kids down with handfuls of chocolate bars. She says every year that she needs to get rid of it because she hardly gets any trick or treaters, and uncle Gord can't eat it because of his diabetes. I laugh though, because every year she still buys a tonne and then sends probably 30 mini chocolate bars home with our family. When the kids were really young it was hard to get them to understand that after being at aunt Paula's, they were no longer allowed to reach into other people's bowls and grab handfuls of candy...that only worked at Aunt Paula's.

I love Izzy's expression in this one

See what I mean? And that handful wasn't all she put in Lyric's bag, believe me :)

Had to include this pic of Lyric's ballet class last night, all dressed in costume :) My little dancer!

Here are the trick-or-treaters. Poor Obi is getting a cold and wasn't feeling really well.

It was a fun Halloween. I was dreading it actually, but it was a lot of fun. We were able to visit with some neighbours we haven't seen in a while. Even had a drink and helped one with a puzzle for a bit :) It's always nice to connect with people in the neighbourhood. I also finally had the chance to meet a back-door neighbour. Introduced myself to them, which was cool. Someday I envision neighbourhood BBQ's...that would be so cool. Finally meet the people on my street.

Very full, but very good day. Now I'm off to bed.

Hi Mel
So much to see your little "trick/treaters" on Wed. I can't believe that you were coming down the hall when I was looking up your number!. thanks for showing me your home, and be assured that you have our prayers. Maybe we will have to visit Kingsfield Clinton!
