Busy Day

Today was a busy one! After getting Izzy and Obi to the bus stop we left for London to get my passport. Had to sit there for almost an hour and a half until I could get up to the counter. That actually wasn't so bad, I thought it would be longer because when I got there every single seat was full in the waiting room. I brought my new MP3 and a scrapbooking magazine and actually enjoyed the time to myself for a while. Thankfully Joel took Licky for a walk while I waited. In the end I was successful at getting my passport all ready to process. I don't know why, but those government things make me nervous. I feel like I have to prove who I am to them and that they question everything. Joel and I were laughing about this on the way down to London. I said "you get to the point where you wonder...am I really who I say I am?". Feels great to have the passport out of the way. I should get it by October 25th they say.

Joel also met our doc while he was waiting for the bus and managed to get him to write me a script for my Hep shots that I need to go to Colombia. I was so thrilled because the soonest appointment I had booked (on Oct. 4th) was for October 27th!! I was worried the shot wouldn't even have enough time to settle in. I hate immunizations, but Joel insists I have this one when I go. Better to be safe than sorry (please no lectures from my non-immunizing friends ;)

Then tonight was Obi's first pre-powerskating class. He was pretty excited (although worn out from a full day at school). He looked so adorable all dolled up in his hockey duds. Joel and I figured out that by purchasing previously-owned equipment (and borrowing shin pads), we managed to completely outfit him for hockey for a mere $20. Not bad eh? Yes, I've always gotten a charge out of bargain shopping. I believe I could count on one hand the number of brand-new clothes I have bought for any of my kids. The rest are from used stores. When you have the time to visit those on a regular basis, you can dress your children very well for very cheap! I have also had wonderful friends who have passed clothes down to my children and I'm so grateful to them.

So, it was a busy and productive day. I'm 2 steps closer to being ready for Colombia. Last night I got some Spanish lessons on tape and CD as well as a couple of books so I'm going to try to pick up some of the language before I go. Maybe I'll make it a goal to include one Spanish word per blog from now until I leave. Wish me luck. 6 weeks to learn Spanish...yikes. Yes, it was a busy dia (day :)

Talk to you later,
Mel
