Just had to include this picture from the weekend. Those of you who know my dad know that he is a HUGE John Deere lover from way back. His friends picked up this tee for him in Halifax at the Desperate Housecows convention, or some such crazy thing :) Got a real kick out of it!!
We had a great, relaxing weekend. Although mom and dad kept the guys working at moving rocks and wood. I know they appreciated the extra man-power. We had some amazing food and some wonderful chats by the campfire. Campfire in October!!! Last night I was sitting there at the fire with the family, the lake was as clear as glass, the full moon lighting up the sky and I was completely in wonder of how blessed we were to have that experience so late in the year!!
Saturday my dad had been talking about setting off his four cherry bombs in the backyard (he is a pyrotechnic wannabee). I happened to be reading over the local paper and saw that Walkerton was having a fireworks display that evening. I convinced the family to go and we all headed over for the big show. It was incredible!! The kids had a blast: Obi in dad's headphones to keep out the 'scary noise'. We brought sleeping bags and lawn chairs. It was so beautiful! The only downside was the way the smoke hung in the air (frozen no doubt ;) It was a pretty cool evening. It was pretty gross breathing in those fumes as we walked to the van. Despite the cold, Joel and Obi actually ended up sleeping OUTSIDE Saturday night. I couldn't believe they were so crazy!!
The other downside of the weekend was that Friday night Izzy threw up twice. Then Sunday morning (right before the cousins came), Obi threw up a few times (and other yucky things). I felt so bad for him to be puking on our Thanksgiving day, and also bad that my neices and nephews would be exposed to that as well. He ended up sleeping for about three hours in the middle of the day and woke up a different kid. All perked up and hungry. He was completely back to normal. It was the strangest thing.
I only pray that they didn't get their little baby cousin sick Friday night (we met Ellie...what a beauty!!).
We keep wondering why this stomach bug keeps rearing it's ugly head days and days after they've gotten over it (and we think they're healthy again). Argh. I shouldn't complain, I have close friends who are dealing with far more serious health concerns than a little stomach flu!!!
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the beautiful weather! The kids are excited to get back to school (which makes me happy!) and I'm looking forward to heart to heart again tomorrow.
Signing off,
Mel
