Well, I'm getting totally psyched about the upcoming doula conference in Toronto this weekend. It's going to be an amazing weekend with my dear friend Jenn and the doula that attended my birth with Izzy...Sharon (a good friend as well). We plan to have a lot of fun and also learn a lot.
They have some great speakers lined up for this weekend such as Ann Douglas (Mother of all...books), Dr. Andrighetti, Erica Ehm (Yummy Mummy?), Teresa Pitman, Janice Morro and more! With topics such as:
-Fresh thinking on babies and sleep, C-sections in Canada: controversies and challenges, secrets of a yummy mummy, how birth affects breastfeeding, perinatal and postpartum anxiety and stem cell research. A lot of good information that should really help in our jobs as doulas.
This is the first conference of it's kind that I've been able to attend. I was so thrilled when I realized there was a doula organization that actually had a conference in CANADA!! Not only that, but it's free to attend if you're a member of CAPPA. Good deal. So we'll be paying for gas, hotel and food and that's it. Let me tell you, it's so nice to be the one who gets to travel for business for a change. I went through months of Joel living in Owen Sound for half of the week, eating in restaurants and sleeping in hotels with his buddies. Now it's my turn :) Yippee.
On the other side of that, I can completely understand how Joel will be feeling being the one left behind. He's such a great guy to let me go to Toronto this close to my Colombia trip. I'm a very lucky woman (blessed is more like it).
I probably won't post tomorrow and definitely won't be on this weekend, so we'll talk to you Monday. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures and some wonderful stories of the things I learned at the conference.
Have a great weekend all,
Mel
