Well, my Bible study leading is over. Last Tuesday was our last Heart to Heart meeting. It was with mixed emotions that I finished off the session. I will definitely miss it, but the extra time will be nice at home as well. My study group was great, although they didn't seem to open up a whole lot. From the thank you card I got it seems like they all seemed to learn something from the book and the class, so that's good.
Probably one of the greatest lessons (or reminders) that I got out of the book Cure for the Common Life was the fact that little deeds can make a big difference. I was proud of Obi this week when he decided to bless the Recycling man with a note, picture of a recycling truck and 2 mini chocolate bars that we taped to the front of our recylcling box. It was a little thing, but I'll bet it made his day. Let's face it, I'm sure it's not often that he finds a kind note taped to the reclycling bins that he empties. Obi's hoping that maybe he'll leave us a note sometime too. I told him not to count on it, but just to feel good about doing something nice for someone.
There are so many opportunities that we all have on a daily basis to bless other people if we just take the time to think of others. I know life is busy, and we all get wrapped up in running from appointment to appointment and it's hard to recognize what may cheer up other people. But if we make a conscious effort to pay attention to that still small voice that encourages us to notice other people we'll discover many small things that we can do that may make a big difference for someone.
So give it a try. Do something for someone else that meets a need for them. Maybe it's cleaning out someone's eavestroughs, paying for someone's breakfast, or leaving a note of appreciation for the person who does the jobs you never think about. Believe me, you'll be blessed as much as the person you help!

thanks mel and obi for reminding me of this. it's good to be reminding of this from time to time. i remember thanking the cleaning people and food people while i was in the hospital. (people i'm sure who don't feel very appreciated often) i just said thank you but it put the biggest smile on their face. obi, you're such a sweetpie to think of the recycling man! i'm sure he'll smile every time he picks up your recycling from now on!:)
what an adorable picture, Obi did a GREAT job of reminding us all that it's the little things in life that we take for granted. A little thank you goes a lo-o-o-ng way!!
