My girlfriend Kim and her hubby Jeff came over for supper tonight. She gave me this lovely 'lucky Bamboo" plant as a gift. I was thrilled. I've always thought they were really neat looking! I've been pretty proud of the plant-caretaking skills this year. My hybiscus is still thriving (and was even flowering in November), I've successfully kept my poinsetta alive and in bloom and now I have a new friend to care for. It's interesting how I have more of an interest in plants as I get older (maybe a little bit of my Grandma and parent's green thumb coming out in me). I find it nice to have living plants in my house, especially in the winter when everything outside looks grey and dead.
Speaking of colour, I've been noticing lately how much more beautiful healthy food is compared to junk food. I'm not sure if that's another piece of me missing the colours of summer or not. I read an article in a Natural Health magazine yesterday about really savouring food, and concentrating on how it looks, how it smells, and savouring it, instead of just scarfing it down. I'm the first to say that a Big Mac is a beautiful thing ;), but I was struck by how appealing these veggies for our chicken wraps looked all cut up and arranged in the platter.
I know, I'm weird :) Remember, it's all about living in the moment...and savouring every moment of life right? Because we all know the years are flying by. I can't believe tomorrow is the last day of 2006. Whoa.

Not weird at all, Mel! The beauty of food in it's natural form has always struck me.
