Well, I have been working away at some hand-made gifts for Christmas. Let me tell you, the crunch is on. I have been kicking Joel out of rooms so I can work on his gift while he's home because I've only got a couple of days left...AHHH. Tonight he has hockey and I'd better be close to finished by the time he gets home. We will be at mom and dad Siebert's all weekend, so no time then. Obi and Joel are the lucky ones this year. I've also been busy knitting hats for the upcoming doula babies :), something I've always enjoyed doing for my clients.
I have always LOVED receiving homemade gifts. There is something about them that makes them extra special. WHAT? You ask. Well, as the maker or some handmade gifts, let me tell you...the time and care invested in them is what makes them special. I'm not a card-maker, but I love getting those hand-stamped, embossed and sparkling cards from friends, I've got a handmade pottery mug from my sister-in-law Kath (I prefer it to any other mug I own), I've gotten handmade quilts from my Grandma (which I will treasure always and look forward to displaying someday). My Great-Grandma spent 25 YEARS making my quilt. Can you imagine??? I know I got my love of detail from this great lady. She started to cross stitch the quilt top when I was born. When I got married at the age of 25, she was rushing to finish it (which she did). It is a glorious sight. I will get a pic sometime and post it. Now that is a special gift!!
So if you are blessed enough to receive a handmade gift this year (even if it is just a scribbled picture from your kids), recognize the love and care that went into it.
Merry Christmas,
Melanie
