Miracles

I was talking with the kids on the way home for Goderich about Miracles. Obi said "I thought that miracles only happened back in Bible days". No, I said, miracles happen even these days, but often people think that it's just good luck, or chance.

Warning: this story has graphic violence

I heard a miracle story down in Colombia. I wish I had a picture of Alex "the Pirate", but I didn't get one. I only met him for a short time when a few of us shared a cab ride on the way home from a church on the Saturday night. He laughingly told us that he is referred to as "the pirate" because he wears a patch over his eye. The story of how he came to need the patch is indeed a modern day miracle. Alex was in a truck headed to work with many other rural Colombians one day. The truck was pulled over by the paramilitary groups and the men were told to stand in a line. One by one they were shot by the paramilitary. Alex fell to the ground in fear. The noticed that he was still alive and shot him through the head, he lost his eye. Just as the group was leaving, they were making sure all the men were actually dead and they slashed him in the back of the neck with a machete. They don't know how long he went without medical help, but the man survived. Not only did he survive, but losing an eye and having scars across the back of his neck are the only physical things that he came out of the whole even with. He is able to speak, walk, talk and even takes the time to help teach Bible studies in the Bellavista prison (if I remember correctly).
And people think that miracles don't happen...
