The first time i heard about the Diva cup was from my cousin's blog. My initial thought about a menstrual cup, I'll admit, was not positive. I thought it sounded pretty gross and was sure I would never be able to use a product like that. However, the more I thought about it and read about it and asked about it, the more I liked the idea. So, I took the trip to our local health store and bought my own cup.
The cup is made of medical grade silicone. You insert it when you think your period is coming (or once you get it), and you empty and wash the cup every 12 hours. As a woman who's never liked the idea of tampons (only ever wore them for ballet or swimming if I absolutely had to), the idea of inserting this wasn't exactly appealing to me. I'll be honest, it took me several cycles of my period before I became comfortable with it, and learning how to get it in 'right'. But with a one-year money back guarantee I knew I wasn't taking any risks in trying it. Now I LOVE my cup, it makes periods a dream compared to what they used to be. I honestly forget that I've got my period because I only have to think about it twice a day. The cup holds quite a bit (close to one once I think), I sometimes have to empty it more than every 12 hours on the first day because my flow is heavy and I find it slips down when it's getting full. Generally I can make it the 12 hours no problem though.
Here's the site:
http://www.divacup.com/ Check it out on your own. Not only will you be helping the environment, but you'll dread your period far less than you do right now. Once you get used to this product, you'll think tampons and pads are disgusting and the cup is the best thing around.

well worth the money. (value worth about 7 boxes of tampons)....
keep it for years!
Yay! I'm so glad you've discovered the benefits of the Diva Cup!
Here's to happier periods!
i love mine too, and was only using it for about two months before discovering i was pregnant. i was actually a bit sad to know i wouldn't have occasion to use it again for awhile. of course, then i realized i wouldn't have to worry about my period at all, and i was ok again.
but i certainly do recommend highly, to anyone who will listen. thanks for posting on this.
mel - i found you through kath.
