I've always been fascinated by the way the Sieberts all host other people in their homes. Joel tells me of the many different people who lived in his basement while he was growing up. Since I've been around Dave and Ruth have had people living in the basement (including me for a summer). Jared and Kathy often have people boarding with them and Leah and Brad have also had their share of housemates. To me this is a difficult thing to imagine. I am somewhat of an introvert and enjoy my own personal (quiet) space (not that it happens often). I've never been able to see myself having others living in our home ...maybe I'm selfish?? This is something I've struggled with over the years. Anyway, I'm getting too deep here (me?? never!). I really wanted to blog today about the many UNWANTED and UNINVITED housemates that we've hosted since moving into our 126 year old home. The list is long....including centipedes, spiders, flies, a mole, BATS, squirrels, birds and most recently a RACCOON!!
Okay, we're not really sure if the raccoon actually lives in our home (the above picture was taken last weekend at MacGregor pt), but for some reason, the stinkin coon has made the roof directly outside our upstairs bathroom window into it's litter box...lovely!! I am absolutely amazed by the sheer size of raccoon poop. It looks more like a dog's. Every morning now when I'm sitting there on the toilet, I get to look out to see a fresh dung pile added to the old dried out ones...YUCK! I've tried to sneak up on it (but it's never there when I'm up), I've tried sticking our huge box fan in the window blowing out (hoping it would just move over two feet so I don't have to see it). Nothing so far has worked.
SO...Joel found out yesterday at work that apparently Pine Sol poured onto the roof will deter the coon from crapping on it. So we bought a big ol' container today. Let's hope it works. Will keep you updated (I'm sure you'll want to know all about our coon poop right?).
In the last few weeks Joel has ridded our house of 2 bats and a nest full of baby squirrels (don't ask). Let's hope we can get rid of yet another Freeloading boarder in our home.

So, has your unwanted housemate started leaving his dog poop somewhere else yet?
Yes!! Actually, we didn't even get to the Pine Sol yet, Joel cleaned all the piles off and he's left us alone since...strange! Well, I'm sure he hasn't left us alone, but at least he's leaving his treasures somewhere that I don't have to see every morning!
