My dear father-in-law had the above CHUNK of wood surgically removed from his thumb this past Tuesday. The poor guy! A piece of wood kicked back and impaled his thumb. I'll admit, when he showed up in my driveway to see if Joel could drive him to the hospital in Goderich to have his sliver taken out I was wondering what the heck kind of monster sliver he had buried in his bandaged hand. Incidentally Joel was working that day so I explained the only way Joel could drive him would be if he called 911. He had a good laugh at that one.
So dad was here yesterday to show off the beast...still covered in blood. We took the above picture so that Joel and Obi could see it while he drove the sliver to London for Leah to peruse :) He is one tough dude! Said it didn't hurt when it happened. I got to hear vivid details of how they tried to yank it out after cutting open his thumb. I couldn't believe it actually went in through the top of his thumb and poked out the other side. Doc said it must have sliced through just above the bone...Yucky! Of course Joel couldn't wait to show his buddies at work the pictures as well. Those guys really enjoy gore...the more the better it seems. I'm thrilled we have those sick-minded people though, I certainly wouldn't want to be a medic!! Joel calls it a "dark sense of humour", that they have to laugh about the disgusting things they see or it would just mess them up.
So poor Dad..a month or two ago he sliced his upper arm with a utility knife...now this.
Love ya Dad, Keep up on those meds so you don't get an infection!!

Hey Mel! I'm so glad I found your blog! (Thanks, Kath!) I've just spent the last hour or so reading through it and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Despite being first cousins, there is so much about you that I don't know. Your blog should help in that area! I will be back many times, I'm sure.
