On Friday Izzy will celebrate her SIXTH birthday. I can't believe it! It makes me feel so OLD. I had an interesting discussion with my group of women that sometimes get together to chat and have a break, about how we don't feel as old as we actually are. Most of us decided that although we are all around 30 years old that we still feel 21. Isn't that an odd thing?
As a child I used to always play "teenagers" and I would pretend I was Christy Brinkley and I was married to Tom Cruise. I would dream of all the things that I would do when I was older, and what it would feel like to be 19, 29 etc. The funny thing is, I guess I figured once i got to be 29 (for example), that I would somehow be a different person. I am always surprised when I hit my birthday and realize...man, I'm 32 now, and I'm still the same person I was when I was nine and dreaming of being 32. So strange. It was nice to talk with some other women that feel the same way I do..that I can't be as old as my birthday says I am.
Anyway, I'm getting way off topic ;) My sweet Izzy will be heading off to school full time this year. I am amazed every day by her. She is so smart, and beautiful, and strong-willed and she knows how to get what she wants by sweet talking ;). I am so proud of her and how she is turning out. We have our moments of course, but on the whole she is amazing. At almost six, she is reading the novel "The Secret Garden". She has always been in love with books. They say she can read at a grade three level. I try to encourage her to read whenever she wants. She is somewhat introverted and likes to have some space to herself when overloaded, so she'll go up to her room for hours and read. I wonder what she will be when she grows up... an author? a teacher? a doula? :) I am thrilled at the possibilities and hope that I am able to encourage her in whatever path she decides to take (even if it's to get married early and not go to post-secondary school). For now I'm happy to have my little girl who loves books, camping, ballet and playing "make believe".
Happy Birthday Sweetie,
Love Mommy
