Quinzhee Adventures

Well, I found out the proper spelling of the term and I wasn't even close the first time (Quincy??). Ah well, here it goes:

Joel "added on" to his beautiful snow hut this afternoon by blowing the snow from the entire backyard onto the pile. He's hoping he can carve the ceiling inside so that there is more space. You'll see why shortly.

I can't believe it, but as I write this, my two boys are sleeping soundly outside. My thermometer says it's about minus 8 degrees out there (which isn't bad considering how cold it has been lately), but STILL...they're both crazy. I guess I'm just not very adventure-some because I just couldn't sleep out there. Here is a picture of the snow fort...hopefully you can get an idea of the size of it, that's Joel butt in the doorway as he's getting Obi all tucked into his sleeping bag. He's wearing pj's, a track suit over top, a hat, and has a nice warm sleeping bag with some cool silver emergency blankets that apparently reflect the heat from your body back to your body. Pretty cool. I was surprised by how warm it seemed in there already when we were tucking Obi in. I hope he doesn't get too hot.

Here is a picture of my two brave boys. Joel is so proud of Obi and his sense of adventure. Joel planned to head to bed at the same time as Obi, but didn't feel like going to bed yet at 8 pm. Obi was okay with sleeping out there all by himself. It blows me away how brave that little man is!

Now, here's what I'm talking about with the ceiling in there:

My mom is likely having an anxiety attack just looking at this picture :) She is horribly claustrophobic. I'm afraid I'm slightly claustrophobic too, I was able to hang out in there for a little while with Obi, but I could never sleep out there, knowing the ceiling was that close to my face. As you can see Obi doesn't seem bothered in the least.

So there you go, the Siebert men surprise me again with their sense of adventure. I'm just glad that Joel's son is just as crazy as he is :) Then I don't have to do all those ridiculous things with him!

I'm betting they come inside sometime during the night (hopefully nobody has to pee!). Ah, they'll probably surprise me and stay out there all night. My guys, they're somethin else...

Nope, I couldn't do it either! Can't believe Obi went to sleep out there on his own! Amazing!
