Snowed In

Well, we had our second snow day this week...so the kids were home today (and Joel was working a 24). It wasn't too bad, luckily we had an event to attend to pass the time this morning. It was the official re-opening of the Salvation Army store here in town. This new store is amazing...bright, organized and full of great stuff. I got a new purse, a coat for Izzy, three movies and a toy for each of the kids (with the promise they would find something at home to get rid of). Spent a whopping $12. and change :) The woman in front of me in line spent $84. Can you imagine how much crap she bought? It was incredible. She must have a salt and pepper collection because she bought several sets as well as a whole lot of other 'treasures'. I've really been working hard lately at de-cluttering so I think I did pretty well today. The new movies helped to pass the rest of the day which was nice, and the kids enjoyed their new toys.

Yeah, we've been getting hit with some white stuff this week, but nothing compared to what my parents are getting up there in Grey/Bruce. Joel heard on the news this week that they got 50 cm of snow overnight one night...can you imagine? He said something about 10 cm an hour as well one day. I guess my dad took his first 'snow day' of his life this week. Not surprising considering I was hearing that ALL the roads in the county were closed for a couple of days early this week. I'm just glad we didn't have to drive to and from the Bear Trail in this weather. Friends of ours are heading north this weekend...I'll be praying they get there safely and have an awesome time :)

Joel built a quincie in the backyard...it's so cool. I'll get a picture tomorrow. Apparently, Joel and Obi are going to sleep in it tomorrow night. Now that is something I could NEVER do. Not just because of the cold, but I am so claustrophobic when I'm in that thing. I know I'd go crazy. It's so cool that Joel is such an adventure nut. He's an incredible dad. Obi is definitely his father's son and willing to try anything. They make quite the pair. Meanwhile Izzy and I shake our heads and wonder what on earth they're thinking some of the time!

On a warmer topic, it felt great to book our first camping trip last night for this coming July with a couple of families from church. I am so excited to think of camping this summer, it's going to be amazing!! Last year when we did a weekend with these couples it rained the ENTIRE trip, so I'm hoping we have better luck this year. We thought if we booked in July we might have a better chance of hot weather...here's hoping.

Well, I'm volunteering at the kids school tomorrow morning and it's after 11 pm so I'd better catch some zzz's. I hate these nights where it's blustery and we have the snow streamers off the lake here and I know Joel's out there on the roads in the Ambulance. We all pray lots for him.

We've got some fun stuff lined up this weekend. Tomorrow night as I mentioned is fun in the snow for the boys, Saturday is a birthday party and hopefully supper with Kath and the boys at mom Siebert's (hopefully she'll make it up here in the snow), Sunday is church. I'm hoping to work a day or two next week in the schools, I can't believe I haven't done a shift since mid- December. Should be good.

Signing off..
Mel

Hope you all stay safe in that crazy weather!

I remember praying for Jason once a few years ago when he was out driving in bad weather. Astrid asked God to please help Daddy remember his seat belt so he'd be safe if the car slipped and fell on the icy road.

Hey, I must be bored, I watched Oprah the other day! There was a guy on there with some great hints on decluttering. I learned alot! One of the things is that if you are hestitating when throwing something out, then you don't need it. Another is to turn all clothes in your closet on hangers facing one way, then when you wear something turn the hanger the other way. After 3 months go back to the closest and remove the things that have the hangers facing the way you orignally put them (you hadn't worn them), place them in a bag, and leave in a closet for 3 more months, if you don't use them after that, get rid of them. Great idea!!
He also had some great other hints, you should have seen some of these houses he decluttered- amazing!!!
ANother hint....take all the stuff out of your junk drawer and put it in a box(he said to do this for each drawer in your kitchen). Then as you need something take it out of the box, use it, then put it back into the drawer. This way you will only keep the items you use. Get rid of all the stuff in the box- not sure how long you keep the box thing going but I thought it was a great idea.
