If only my little superheros were able to fight off the nasty bugs they bring home from school, I would be a very happy momma. Not literal bugs (yet, although we have already received a note from Obi's class that someone has head lice...YUCK), but those stomach bugs and flu bugs.
Not a lie, Izzy went to school on the first day as fit as a fiddle and came home with a tickle in her throat. Okay, you say, there's no way she can pick something up that quickly. I beg to differ. Now, Obi has some crazy flu bug that continues to rage in his poor little body. If you know Obi, you'll know that the following are sure signs that he is sick: Asking to go to bed immediately after supper on Saturday night and sleeping from 6 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., actually asking to have a nap this afternoon and falling asleep quickly, sitting quietly in the back of the van on the way to church yesterday with his mouth wide open looking dazed, puking, laying on the couch all day. These are definitely not normal behaviours for my spunky, active child. It breaks my heart.
Last night was a rough one. After throwing up in bed and also having a BM in his pj's by accident, he awoke this morning seeming pretty good. His fever seemed to have broken and he was determined not to miss school. Joel and I asked him over and over while he ate breakfast and he assured us he was fine to go, we were uneasy about it. Then when it was almost time to go he was complaining of being cold. I took his temp and it was 38.5 degrees. I said, "Obi, don't you want to stay at home?". His eyes filled with tears and he nodded yes. Poor sweetie. I assured him that if he rested today and tomorrow he'll have a better chance of being healthy on Wednesday for school (and the much-awaited meet-the-teacher-nigth/potluck). That was the clincher.
So, now we wait for his little body to fight off the enemy. I like to avoid meds if at all possible so his fever has been up and down today. He hasn't thrown up again which is good. He told me this morning that his friend Georgia from class had a tummy ache at school on Friday . Why does this not surprise me?
I'm just hoping this doesn't rage through the whole family! When the kids start school in the fall and have cold after cold I truly wish I could homeschool, but I know I'd never be able to handle it, I just down have the patience for it! I guess it's time to get back on vitamins.

Oh, Mel! There's nothing worse than stomach flu. Hope Obi's feeling better and that the rest of you escape it.
We'd been illness free since the end of March, but in the last week have all come down with colds to varying degrees. So even homeschooling does not mean you'll escape the bugs, unfortunately!
