Quite the Weekend!

Well, we had quite the busy weekend these past three days. It was great, but busy! Friday we went to Waterloo (which we hardly ever do anymore now that mom and dad have moved). We went to pick up my new glasses, went and bought Joel some new work boots, visited aunt Leah at the hospital and then had lunch with Sari and her family (a dear high school friend that I'm still in contact with).

Our visit with Leah was nice. It was great to see her. Lyric enjoyed the ride on the wheelchair on Leah's lap (after she got over her intial fear). We sat in the lobby and chatted for a while. I can't believe she's been in the hospital since the first week of August. She's a champ. Still in great spirits, and still looking at the bright side of the situation she's in. She mentioned how thrilled she is just knowing she's only a short distance away from hubby and son and how excited she is that she gets to see them every day. Hard to believe in 2 weeks we'll have another baby Siebert in the family (possibly the last??). Our family will be complete. What a strange feeling. It will be nice when she can go home with the baby to recover in her own surroundings. I can't imagine being away from home for that long. She's super!

As always, it was a treat to hang out with Sari and Michael. Sari's daughter Mikayla is such a sweet little girl. I attended her birth three and a half years ago. We seem to have some sort of connection her and I. I like to think it's because I was able to witness her birth. She's a doll and her affection for me is such a treat :) I rarely have much contact with the children that I've seen being born, so when I see her and she's so excited to see me, it's another perk to my job. I was at her baby brother's birth too. It's pretty awesome to be included in such an intimate part of a family's life, especially when it happens more than once. I have a client due on Christmas Eve who will be having her third baby with me as her doula. WOW..what an honour.

Friday night we spent the evening with a couple that we're just starting to get to know. That was a blast.

Saturday was the mom-to-mom sale in Goderich. I wished I had sold more, but I made about $100 so that wasn't bad! I was hoping to at least come home with one or two empty bins...ah well. It was fun to hang out with Angelle, chat with another girl I haven't seen in ages and meet some new people.

Today was church, lunch at Pete and Tanya's, home for naps, then Joel and I were treated like royalty at Tim and Mo's for supper. We actually got a babysitter. What a wonderful evening we had as we ate a wonderful meal by candlelight with real fabric napkins and appetizers!! The conversation was real and uninterupted. A super nice evening.

The only problem, was that my sweet Obi had a rough day. Wasn't feeling well. We gave him some Tylenol and decongestant before we left, but got a phone call from the sitter around 8 pm that he had thrown up in bed. Put a damper on the evening, but our sitter was great and cleaned it up and looked after it all. We did head home an hour earlier than planned. It was hard not to think about my poor sick boy. The joy of being back to school...bringing home the childhood diseases!

Thanks God for a super weekend. Made lots of connections, felt like we shared in some great moments of community with others. A real blessing.

Mel
