Well, yesterday was quite the day!! As you can see in the picture, Lyric had to be just like her older siblings and insisted on wearing her backpack to the bus-stop as well. I explained on the walk there that she wouldn't be getting on the bus with her brother and sister, but she still kept saying "Why?" "Why" as she sat in my arms watching the bus drive away with them on it. Poor dear. I assured her we'd have an awesome day just the two of us...and we did!
What a treat to have one child all to myself! I really haven't experienced this in 4 and a half years. It was great. We phoned Colleen and went to Timmys for some treats and had a really nice visit!! My day was awesome...until the kids got home from school. Okay...so it wasn't that bad, but there were some interesting moments. First of all, Obi came off the bus and had a red and swollen eye. I asked him what happened and he says a kid in his class poked him in the eye with Ms. Hallahan's pointer. I'm led to believe by his story that she didn't address the situation at all and I'm wondering to myself why she didn't at least write me a note to tell me why my son had a swollen eye. I find out later that she never even knew it happened (not sure why she thought Obi was crying...but anyway).
Then he tells me about how he beat up two kids at school. One because he was pulling Izzy's hair and the other one just for fun. PARDON??? I am shocked. Anyone who knows Obi knows that he's a pretty good-natured kid and very loving with others. I've seen him unleash fury on his sisters on occasion...but on new friends at school? I just couldn't figure that one out. I come to find out later that they were playing some chasing game and they were 'attacking' that dinosaurs. I still had a lengthy discussion about the zero tolerance that schools have now for violence and that even play fighting isn't a good idea at school. I hope he understood!! I worked in a school Thursday where a kid got suspended for telling another student that he was going to flush him down the toilet. WOW. That's zero tolerance alright. I'm actually glad to know that they keep violence in check in schools!!
The cutest thing was when Grandpa Siebert called to see how Obi's first day had gone. I heard Obi saying "No Papa, I didn't learn anything, but I talked with GOD!" (God being highly emphasized). I loved that. The kids still can't get over the fact that God is a part of their school day! I love it too.
All in all I think Obi enjoyed school (although he did talk about being bored.. little turkey!). I think it's going to be a good year. Lyric and I plan to hang out lots. I'm hoping to take her to some mom and tot swims on Wednesday mornings and other stuff that I never had the chance to do with her. I just feel bad for Obi who will never get that one on one time like the girls. It's true the middle child does get slighted. At least he's the only boy in the family, so he gets to do some special 'guy' stuff that his sisters don't get to do.
It was a little rough seeing Obi get on the bus, I have to admit. It's true that the years seem to be flying by. Before I know it I'll be seeing my little lineup of 3 babies ALL getting on the bus in the mornings. Awwww

Hey girlfriend,
Thanks for the mention. I really had a good time at Timmy's too. I'm sorry to hear about Obi's day. What a first day-bomped in the eye with a pointer, and beating up some boys. Maybe not something that he will always remember but I'm sure Mommy will. I hope his next day of school will be less eventful.
Take care,
Colleen.
