Well, we took the plunge today. We bought a new minivan. Yes, our venture is still running, and from the sounds of the Lemon-Aid book we're darn lucky it is! Unfortunatly, our baby blue is on it's last leg. Yes, our beloved Toyota is a whopping 17 years old. If it weren't covered in rust and falling apart we could actually put it in an antique car show!! She's been a great car. I'll have to put a picture of her on here so she'll live forever in our memories.
I remember when Joel first bought the car. We were still dating. I was furious!!!! I didn't care what kind of car he bought, but I didn't want it to be a standard. Well, he bought a standard. It took me quite a while to get the hang of switching gears, and using the clutch, but eventually I mastered it. Now it's so natural I don't even think about it. I suppose when we get our new van in our possesion I won't be driving a standard anymore. I wonder if that's a skill you can lose, or if you remember forever. Guess I'll find out.
So, we've been doing our homework on good reliable minivans to buy. Since the Honda and the Toyota vans are WAY out of reach for us financially, we decided to buy ourselves a KIA. My uncle Paul Erb owns a KIA dealership in Bracebridge. He is such an honest guy, I knew that he would help us to make a good choice. Even when we mentioned that we'd found some for cheaper than he was offering this golden beauty, he didn't try to force the sale and encouraged us to get more info on the other vehicles. In the end after tracing some pretty fishy vehicle records we decided that being able to trust the person we're buying for was worth that extra money!!
We would have loved to get another car. It's nice to have the option to drive something smaller and easier on gas. However, a car is not practical with three still in carseats. Our hope is that the venture will last until one of the kids is out of a booster and we can finally fit the whole family in a car. Then we'll buy a car. For now we'll have the 2 vans. It's pretty exciting (yet scary) to take on such a big expense. It was nice to see our credit line actually being chipped away at. Now we will more than double the amount of credit line debt that we had before. Ah well, hopefully the Sedona will be a good reliable addition to the Siebert family.
Thanks Uncle Paul!

enjoy that new car smell, mel! i'm sure it won't last too long with all your little munchkins, munchin' away in there! i'd like to say...sweet ride...but it just doesn't seem appropriate with a minivan. practical yes...sweet not so much!

I too had a standard as our first car, and I guarantee you it is a skill you do not lose. Our son just bought his first car it also is a standard, and I shocked him when I asked if I could give it a test drive and I didn't stall it!!
Yeah ME !!
