A Big Day

Well, no baby yet for client #2. She is doing so well at waiting though, it's been cool to see how God has given us all peace in waiting for this baby. I'm sleeping so well without even taking my herbs, it's amazing.

We've got a lot on the plate for today!! It's Obi's 5th birthday for starters. Hard to believe that five years ago today I birthed my baby boy into Joel's hands. It was absolutely an incredible experience that I will never forget. Joel wanted to deliver all of our kids, but missed out on Izzy (with an OB he had little chance of being allowed to catch). Actually I was the one who 'caught' Izzy strangely enough...a fact that I didn't know until over a week after her birth. I recall Dr. Hancock telling me to reach down and get my baby, but I didn't realize that I actually got to pull her up when her legs and feet were still inside. I thought that was pretty cool!

With Obi, Joel was able to do it all. Susan (our local midwife) just stood beside him and talked him through it, what to do, when to turn the baby, what to check for etc. I have video that was taken immediately after the birth and Joel is crying...it is so beautiful. That he got to deliver his own son was such a blessing.

So today we celebrate our little Obi-Dobi. I always write a note to my kids for their birthday, talking about what things they been doing in the past year and how they are changing and growing. I have to get on that with Obi, I still haven't written it yet. I tuck them into their memory boxes, I figure they wouldn't appreciate them now anyway, but they'll probably love to have them when they're older!

Today we will also celebrate Christmas with my Grandma (you know about her...I've blogged about her several times). I love her like crazy and treasure every moment that we get to spend together:

I will also see my brother's family (who we don't see often) and my cousins that I only really see once a year. My cousin Rach and I have always been pretty close (at least for only seeing each other once a year). I recall playing tea party under Grandma's big dining table and stirring out Sprite with pretzels when Grandma would give us a snack. Interestingly enough we married men that grew up together (living with their backyards touching). Such a small world. Even though she lives in Kingston, we keep up to date by reading each other's blogs (http://www.rachelerb.blogspot.com/) She is a beautiful writer. We share a similar passion for women and for birth which also connects us.

I am so blessed to have such wonderful memories of my family and extended family! Will post later with pictures from this busy day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that baby #2 holds off until at least this evening :)...sorry about that client #2 (who reads my blog faithfully). But don't worry, if you need me I'll be there, and I'll be THRILLED about it :) Being in the delivery room is always where I most want to be. My first client ever went into labour on Labour day of 2003. Joel and I were heading to a Tragically Hip concert later that day (Watershed), with Great Big Sea. I had to miss the concert. Believe me, Tragically Hip is a band I have always wanted to see. But I'm still glad that I was at a birth instead. Maybe I"ll see the Hip again someday... maybe not, and that's okay too, cause BIRTH ROCKS.

Signing off,
Mel
