Longest Day of My Life

Well, Client #2 finally had her baby last night. She is not only a client, but has also become a very dear friend in the last 9 months. I joined her and her husband at 6:30 Monday evening (after spending 15 minutes scraping a layer of ice off of my van). The poor thing finally had a baby boy last night at 8:13 pm. As usual I can't share details of the birth since I don't have her permission, but I have to say it was the most unusual birth I've ever attended. God is good though, and in the end a healthy baby boy was the result. My client is one incredible woman, after enduring over 26 hours of labour (for a second baby!). She was so strong, so determined and so in tune with her body that it blew me away.

Yes, I do love my job, but this one really stretched me because I felt like I'd failed her. I should learn not to trust my instincts, I kept telling her that I had a really good feeling about this birth, that is was going to be great, but it was TOUGH! Her and her husband were amazing though, and God was faithful. In the end I think she's okay with how things turned out, but I still wish I could have done more to help. All along all I could feel God saying it was all in His hands, but I sure had a tough time believing it.

Client #2, you are amazing. I hope that you are proud of the work you did to bring that beautiful boy into this world. I couldn't be more proud of you!

Love your doula,
Mel

Forget about confidentiality - I don't care who knows - I have to tell the world what an awesome woman you are, Mel! In no way or at no time did I ever feel you failed me. You were such a source of strength for me through that labour and I know I could never have done it without your magical hands and your prayers. God was with us through the whole thing, of that I am certain, and I am at peace with the outcome.
I love you Mel!
